Has anyone used this mic yet. Sounds interesting, but I really don't have the $100 to waste if it's not all it's cracked up to be.

I've got one Audix i5, (only mic I have), using it currently for recording my bagpipe band. I'm sure it's not the end all of mic's but, for me, right now, it's doing the job. Should have an MP3 or two up on a website in the near future for reference.

That said, the i5 is replacing many tasks for me that were occupied by the 57. Snr top and bottom, gtr amps, funky vocal track etc. A good all purpose dynamic mic!
While speaking of Audix, reason they're winning me over is the SCX-25 condensor mic. Love it, love it, love it, love it, love it, love it, for drum overheads. Did I say I love it? I'm fortunate enough to have a lot of "better" mics at my disposal too.
Let's just say I'm happy they're trying to woo me and IMHO they are making a few of the most underated micsw right now.

Wow....nice to have you here 'kungfulio'....Audix mics are very good...I've been trying to borrow one from a couple of our local dealers to get a real take on how they sound.I've heard great things about the i5 and only hushed whispers on the SCX-25....like none wants anybody to find about its 'airiness'(is that a word??)Anyway....Rick Mc tells me when we start our new project that I'll get one for a demo...looking forward to it...and again welcome in....Hope you can share with our folks here some of your expertise.

I've bought two i5's in the past month for general purpose use, and I have been fairly impressed. I'm going to slowly start replacing my 57's with em. I am fairly sure Audix designed them to directly compete with the 57's, as they are virtually the same size and they have a metal ring around the metal mesh whereas the 57 was plastic. I have also come to find that the i5 needs much less gain to sound appropriate to each situation. All in all, I think Audix has simply built a better mousetrap

Hey Guys!
Just for the record - the i5 is a friggin sweet mic. Many of you know that, in general, I'm not a fan of the SM57. (Save the flame, it's all been done before.)
The i5 is cleaner and more natural sounding, just as rugged and in general, a bit more versatile thanks to a much more tame response.
As for the SCX25 - you would be hard pressed to find a mic in this price range that does what it can do. It is VERY sensitive to the most minute of sounds, has a very clean extended upper register and works so beautifully on percussion (including the most difficult of mallet percussion), piano, and many types of voice.
Dave - if you're still having trouble with borrowing the Audix - give me a hollar - I might have a solution for you in the near term.

re i5
I am curious too, I've held the mic in my hands and it seems to be built like a tank, but I've not hear anything go through it. I was considering getting one of those but I decided on a md421.
