I was telling this guy I met who happens to own a indie label that I was going to purchase a HHB or masterlink CD recorder to produce my CD's and he said no matter what model I purchase it will not put the same kind of time codes on my CD's that a CD manufactuer equipment will. Is this true and does this really matter, if so why?

I doubt he meant timecodes but most likely meant PQ codes which is done by the mastering engineer or done at the duplication plant if you send them a CD made from the HHB or masterlink. With the proper CD recording software and a CD-R drive you could do this but not on a standalone units like the HHB or masterink. PQ codes contain the info for the index, start/stop times, and other data flags for SCMS, demphasis and such.
