Has anyone used Gordon preamps for recording classical ensembles
(or other acoustic music)? Some forum members have implied that it might represent a new, better sounding innovation in transparent preamp technology. Opinions on how it would compare to a Crookwood, etc?
My opinion: it would sound different. Better? That's opinion. Un
My opinion: it would sound different. Better? That's opinion. Unless you can do A-B comparisons such opinions are hard to take seriously.
Personally I think that when you get into the hghest strata (is that an oxymoron?) of Millennia, Grace, BG, and some others, that there is no absolute best, only subtle flavor shifts that are influenced by hall, mic, player, and humidity (and lest you think I am joking, if you record an orchestra in the same hall long enough you can tell what the humidity is from the sound).
For my SF12 with instrumentalists would choose my Millennia-- with choral either Prec 8 or BG. Which is best? Depends.
The Gordon is expensive, and probably worth every cent. But with limited dollars I chose to spend them on mics.
