The "potentialy" excellent program TotalMix that comes bundled with RME soundcards really needs a better explanation of it's usage.
I use the word "potentialy" because I have seen many people asking: how does it work?, how to do a submix, and why do advanced users find it essential ?. .myself being one of those people asking. So important are these questions, is that not setting TotalMix correctly can and does lead to signal routing problems, bad sound, and missed opportunities when creating a song/project.
It has been said that experienced (mixing) board users adapt to this program much easier than the inexperienced ones do. Myself being of the latter, I am often afraid to change the settings once I have figured out a working one because it may take me a while to do so.
If a video tutorial came upon the market for purchace, I would buy it. I have yet to find an online tut, and the Manual and the RME site helps only a little.
Does anyone have any suggestions in this areas?

Hi Randy,
I agree that the Totalmix guide in the manual is a bit dry,but there is
a lot of good information there; I recommend working through it as much
as you can.
New features are also being introduced regularly via driver updates,so
it's a good idea to check the notes on driver updates in the
downloads>drivers section of http://www.rme-audio.com
Be sure to read the "read me" notes included in driver updates as well.
The best way to learn the features of the Totalmix mixer is probably
to just go ahead and use it; remember you can recall the factory preset
settings when you wish.Also,once you have a signal routing set up the
way you like,you can save it as a preset.

..and I have read that using the RME newsgroup might leave my system open to virus's that scan for email add. , BUT this might be a rumor, so I may be misinformed.

Just got mine 2 days ago and im enjoying it.
Im running it on an ibook g4 1.02 ghz 768ram and currently garage band as i await my savings account to grow enough cash for logic 7.
Am having a great experience with it thus far.Recording Sounds better than my oo2r did. My guitar direct sound is now so much more usable in conjunction with onboard effects. My guitar direct sound was garbage with the digi oo2r. It made me upset to hear what it sounded like through amplitube.
Even though Im using the lowly garageband temporarily for now, the rme pre's and the special gain and amp sim features of the fireface are giving me a strong instrument tone to build something good with.The latency wasnt really noticable either with vocals or guitar...
havn't tried the midi connection yet...probably tonight or tomorrow.
I think the weak link in my system is the little probably the ibooks energy saver low rpm drive at this point.
Next comes a good 7200rpm external drive, a decent mid level pro mic like the rode k2 and a G5 on the next years horizon....

I use the app "hogwasher" to get into the site...do a search on osxaudio forum and youll get more detailed information on how to do it. You might also get some more info on how the program works.
