Hey everyone. I am currently in a Radio Broadcasting program and I do a TONNE of voice over type work through my own computer here at home. I currently have an Audio-Technica AT3035 condensor microphone that I love, it seems to give me great sound and amazing clarity. There is a couple things though that I would still like to improve. First of all, I am looking for more of a WARM and PRESENT vocal track, and I think a mic preamp is the best way to get this, I think? So I was looking basically for a mic preamp $200 or less that would give me some ofhte warmth and presence i am looking for. Second of all, i think this second probelm I am having can be elimated with a better preamp is a little bit of hum/fuzz in the background. Right now I am currently using a cheap ART Tube MP which has done well but I think it is causing most of the hum. I am using a SoundBlaster X-fi card, so it shouldnt be the problem. Thanks for any help you can give me as to what mic preamp would be best for me!

Under $200.00 really puts a damper on things. All that I have used out there in that price range that gave decent results for my VO work has been the dbx 286a mic processor. The downward expander and compressor work together in a very nice way. Helps remove "the room" from being a hinderance if you're not in the best environment. Otherwise, I love the Valley People Air Force One (they call it something else these days). You can find them on e-Bay. Same with the Orban voice processor, which is out of production but very "tight" over dynamics. A couple on e-Bay last week. There is also the dbx 386 (?) which is a hybrid tube/ss "channel strip" that many on this forum like. These are available all over the place at great deals. Check those out.
