just as a note timtu, it's not nessecarily relevant to you, or the question, but not all cables that look the same are the same....
Neutrik plugs (like pictured) have been copied by lots of people (Ashton, Australian monitor, Proel, Climb etc etc...)
Looks are decieving, Neutrik make great plugs, they fit together well, the boots don't break, silver contacts, easy to solder, good strain relief, I could go on and on.
I am most probably biased, but I like quality and will only use Neutrik (and Tasker cable). They cost a bit more but they break down a lot less, which is important to me.
That's my choice, there are other very good brands of cable and plug available too though..
Anys the point of my rant was, Don't assume a cable is good because it looks like the one pictured. unless it has Neutrik written on the plug,it most probably is a lesser quality copy.
To me it matters, but every person is different. So if a cheaper one serves your wants, then that's fine by me. (just don't tell me you're using a cheap cable to connect your vintage U87 to your Neve console - I'd be hard pressed not to cry)
That's my rant, Have fun y'all 8-)
Man after my own heart :D Can't get Klotz down here, had a loo
Man after my own heart :D
Can't get Klotz down here, had a look at their website and it looks like very fine cable though.
I'm essentially limited to Tasker, Sommer, Proel or Belden.(or cheapo's - but not goin there). One of the only downfalls of living in such a small place I guess.
Have Fun - Al

My favorite cable is Klotz from Germany.
ohh.. i tripple that big time!!!
ok, neutrik is well known as "the best" plug connection avialable... but far to many people... specially in the states or here on this very forum IGNORE... KLOTZ cables... and continuing spending more then neccessary money on Mogami, Monster and god knows what.......................................................
I TELL YOU JUST TRY A KLOTZ CABLE ONES, JUST ONES... AND I GUARANTEE YOU WITH HIGHEST CONFIDENCE YOU WANT NEVER, EVER TOUCH ANOTHER CABLE. and spend more money then neccessary!!
just try.
p.s. i bought in the very beginning of my career some over ten years ago used mic cables from rock 'n' roll live use beaten up like hell... they are still in use, all of them in my studio... without any repair ever!! they are Klotz with neutrik connex...

I think I may have stretched my patience in another thread today
... one about SPDF and the M-Box 2 and so have decided to get out of the way.
We can only help as much as people want us too.
As always,
my advice to every one is to purchase at least ONE piece of
Professional quality, industry standard equipment
in each category
so that you know what we are talking about and have something to compare the others too.
Here in this case, buy a quality prepare Mic cable and in the future when you have other cables in your hands you will know which ones are good
and that does include cheap ones
and which one are just plain crap ($$$)
Knowledge is everything and the greatest investment you can make is the expansion of your knowledge.
Good luck with your mic leads and remember to look after the good ones.
Very Wise and true words Kev, I found an importer for Klotz dow
Very Wise and true words Kev,
I found an importer for Klotz down here, A small company that also brings in Martin Pro Audio.
From what I hear in here about it, I think it might be worth buying a roll when I next need some. I am very hapy with Tasker, but hey I'm always up for trying something new

Microphone Cable ... perhaps
twisted pair
fully sheilded
suits fitting to standard XL3 male and female connectors
Belden
Mogami
or even
Canare Star Quad which has 4 conductors arranged as 2 pairs that will roll and lay very neatly
and many... many more manufacturers have a range of Mic cables to chose from
Mogami Mic Cable with Neutrik Connectors
would be a fine start
