So I have this all tube guitar amp, (Peavey Classic 30, highly under rated) which has a line coming out right after the preamp, to insert effects and such.
So I was wondering, is there a way to hook a mic into it, use it as mic preamp-amp(on the clean channel, I presume), then have that line out go to a mixer?
I know one can just buy one of those XLR-1/4" adaptors, but I'm wondering if there is a higher quality method that might keep the mic sounding as good as possible?
One would conceivably get the sound of the tube pre without any more money spent, and be able to use either a guitar or bass amp, which many of us have.
Just wondering if anyone's tried it for recording vocals or other instruments and what your results were. My home studio is currently under construction so I can't try it myself right now.

Tube guitar amps are eqed for electric guitar sounds. That's quite different than a vocal pre. However experimentation often yields some surprising results so I would give it a try and report your results here. Sometimes the last thing I want is a "normal" sound for a particular quirky tune. It is not that uncommon to "reamp" a vocal through a guitar amp to change the tonality so who knows you might find something useful.

If it were that easy everyone would be doing it. You wont get the sound of a genuine Class-A tube preamp by running it through a tube guitar amp. You can do it, don't get me wrong - but don't hold out any hope from some wonderous sounding signal.
