Hi all, I'm considering the purchase of a Universal Audio 710 mic preamp.

My question is: will it outclass my pair of RODE NT2a mics? Is it too much pre for these mics to the point that I will need to upgrade the mics?

A mic is simply a tool. A preamp, amplifies the signal of the mic in order to bring it to levels usable in a recording or live performance.
Your question is rather subjective. Will your mics work with this pre? Absolutely! Will they work to their complete potential? Without a doubt. Will the quality of the preamp expose deficiencies in my mics? Probably. But herein lies the beauty of this biz. Some things that you think cant possibly sound great together due to differences in price range, build quality, engineering or other factors, actually wind up being wonderful fits.
Rodes are very decent mics as far as fit and finish and most people choose them over other similarly priced gear for the sound, the quality,a recommendation, or the availability to their area of the world. I havent heard anyone ever complaining that they were built shoddily or produced some sort of alien sound........YMMV...
A perfect example of what I'm saying is this.....The main reason that major studios all over the world with millions of dollars in gear use a mic like a Shure SM57 is because of how they sound through really high-end preamps. Its really quite remarkable. The sounds goes from a 'meh' through your typical table-top mixer or inexpensive pre/interface, to a 'Oh, thats THAT sound' through an API or a Neve.
I think you'll be fine with that combo.
