how do one change the key in logic this is racking my mind that it should be easy however i need assistance i would like to change the key in a song

So it would help if you would specify for what plugin or effect you are setting your key too.

Personally I really try to stay away from the auto tune stuff, but there is a simple fix.

You simply have to create a pitch correction plugin.
If you are familiar with the automation settings in Logic Pro 8, you can also use it to control volume. pan, or any plugin that is in use on that particular track.

Click the button that says "volume" on the track you wish to modulate, in the arrange page, then scroll till you find your "pitch correction" plug and select.

Now you will see in the vast amount of paramaters one which says "Scale/Chord type". This will allow you to set to the desired key from one point in the song, then modulate to the next. Just simply click on the track like your using automation and you will see all of the different chords and you hold your mouse button and scroll up an down.

Take it easy with that auto tune, its sounds pretty sick if you can hear it!
If I find that I have to use pitch correction I try to make it subtle or only use it on note, or god forbid, the notes where I really need it. YMMV

Actually there is a feature of Logic that allows for this. select the track that you want to edit and on on the bottom of the screen click Sample Editor > Factory > Time and pitch machine. From there go to the bottom of the box and adjust the amount of cents to equal the number of half steps difference between the keys. 100 cents to a half step. Note, that this overwrites the source files.

double that. but if you want to pitch from a c to a f sharp the results won't be very satisfactory. if you do only one or two half steps it's ok.

for midi tracks it's much easier. select your tracks and adjust the pitch where it says "transpose" in the upper left corner in the arrangement window.

The rule of thumb is to transpose whichever direction causes the least amount of movement. Since you are transposing a flat 5th or exactly half an octave, it will be the same in both directions. I doubt a jump that large in either direction will sound good.
