Im trying to find out if it is possible to create a standard Audio CD which also contains videos that use a menu navigation screen (as per a normal DVD movie) that can be played on a standard DVD player (and possibly on a PC too?).
When inserted in a standard CD player, the video data tracks are skipped/disregarded, but the audio elements CD could be played on the DVD player via the menu.
Is this possible - and what type of CD would this be? I cant find any info about anything that exactly matches this, although I understand that Kylie has released a few of these? but they are pretty uncommon.
What software could be used to do this?

Theres a large highly reputable company in UK that claims they can make this for me and quoted me £350 for the mastering. They called it an SACD, which I know is a hybrid CD that can produce higher audio quality - but they also assured me that they can put on DVD menus that work in standalone DVD players, provided that they accept SACD's.
They advised that Kylie had produced some of these discs, but were pretty rare.
They also offered me a type that is doubled sided as you suggested which I declined.
If you say this isnt possible, and you can only create them that play on PC's - what software is available to author these types of CD? I have created Mixed Mode CD's and CD Extra successfully but on the software I have doesnt allow me to create or insert pre-created menu's.

Johnski, I think what they're telling you is that the (hydrid) SACD can contain a menu and pictures/STILLS, but not video per se. (unless I'm mistaken and they've changed the spec?)
SACD is considered the gold standard by many for making hybrid discs: You can play it on a high-end SACD player and get the best sound intended, or you can pop it in a standard CD player and it'll be recognized as simply a "CD" with audio done at 16/44. I have many here, and they work just fine. Sony and Telarc are but two of many companies that have releases done this way.
But again, I don't think you'll be getting moving pictures or a "movie" per se; it's just a menu & other stills. (Personally, I think they blew it with doing it that way, it's gotta be the biggest reason why so many have NOT embraced it as a useful medium for audio/video projects. Many instead go to DVD's for multipurpose stuff or DVD-A for higher end audio.)
There's a LOT of stuff online about this; you can do a google search for DVD Specs or SACD specs and get the whole story there.

Does this mess with CD compatibility somehow? Yesterday at the record store I saw some Sony/BMG discs that were dual sided CD/DVD and they had this disclaimer about not being compatible with all CD players. Why/how does this effect CD players?

But a DVD player will only recognize it as a CD. The other thing you could do is make a dual sided disc where one side is a CD and the other is a DVD.
