Check out his DAW of choice. It's Magix.Music Maker. Yeah. Hardly a high end DAW.
But, listen to the music this guy makes.
It's mostly if not all vst's, yet it sounds quite organic. Really great work.
It just goes to show that all the gear and software in the world is not enough. You NEED talent. You NEED a sense of harmony.
I could go on looking for the next best plugin or whatever. It's not going to make me a better musician. Sometimes, you have to stop and do the best with what you have to really come to grips with what's lacking in your setup. It may be nothing at all or it may be that you are the weakest link in your signal chain.
I'm not saying stop buying things or stop making music. I'm just saying, there is no reason to buy the best and there is no reason to download cracks. Get what you can afford and make the best of it. And when you've done your best, then decide if you could improve it with a purchase.
Lousy sounding tracks isn't always a result of crappy gear. More often then not, it is a result of inexperience or a lack of talent.
If all you need is experience, then just keep working on it. Talent is such a small part of the equation. If you can put in the 90% hard work, the 10% of talent will come.

Really nothing organic in what I hear on this track or the other stuff on the page. The clip that is embedded is like some kind of soundtrack/video to Avatar(d). I do not like to just cut the quick on this and tried to listen to other tracks on the page, but it was just not anything that seemed interesting at all. I mean sure there was some hard work that went into the productions of these songs and what have you... The only thing is that to call it "Organic" is misleading. I have really no idea what studio or tools they used. Personally, I would have rather listened to something w/ 90% talent and 10% hard work compared to this... I get what you are saying agree that 90% hard work and 10% talent will come w/ time. I just think that talent and hard work are opinions of the listener. I have heard some talented people work really hard on something and it winds up overproduced. But yes we should make the most of what we got and that point is well taken. In this example your dead on w/ that point in your post.

This was less about production quality for me than it was about the feel of the music. I hear organic as in, it doesn't sound like techno and could easily have been done with live musicians. This is a level of production that most home users are striving to achieve. For the most part I don't even like the music but as far as electronic music is concerned it is at the least musical sounding rather than just a mishmash of loops.
Production wise sure, it hurts to listen to for more than a few minutes. It's way compressed and distorted but that wasn't what I was listening for. The end product is greater than the tools he used. With a larger budget it could sound much better but considering what he's using, I thought it was well done.

As usual I like your topic but I got to say this one, the production on this is terrible to me. It sounds VSTi (not organic) and the percussion is so horrible sounding and mixed so poorly.
The reverb on DAW's kill me when they are this heavy.
Curious to hear what others think.
