Anyone using a MOTU 24i/o on WindowsXP? Can you speak as to your experiences with its stability.

For all MOTU 24i/o users: Any comments as to the sonic quality?

I'm basically looking for one great-sounding place to plug everything into and route wherever without messing with a patchbayor console--for both recording and practice purposes. I've looked for analog consoles that give that kind of flexibility with lots of inputs in an inline configuration; all I've found within my budget range was Behringer (which gives me the heebie jeebies) and Mackie (not as much as B in the feature aspect, sounds blah), then a price chasm until the (financially unreachable for me) Soundcraft, Midas, etc. lines.

I should probably give the guys in this forum more time to chime in, but as I tend to float through message boards, I can't say when I'll be back.
But there is a guy on the Sonar forum @Cakewalk.com, that uses a 24io, with XP, He absolutely loves it, and raves about the stability of his system.
Go over there, and do a search, I'm sure you'll find much reference.

I used to have the 24i, the original model and it was decent enough with Motu DP. Of course you have to have 24 ch of preamps to fully utilize it as these are analog inputs only, no preamps and no other connections like light pipe or spdif. I now do have the motu 828mkii and the sound quality is a step above the original 24 i. Im sure the new 24 io is just about the same speed as the 828mkii (sound quality wise.) Motu's converters are ok but when a friend brough a rosetta to plug in the 828mkii I could tell right away the difference a better AD makes. I had to go out and buy one right away after that.

and talking of converters ... there was a recent head-to-head between the RME ADI-8 DS (£1280) and the Apogee AD8000 (nearer £5000) which the RME unit won. The converters from this unit form the basis of the conversion stages in other RME kit, such as the Fireface, Multiface et al ...

Thanks MON! Perhaps a little blurb in your sig line would be appropriate... This is what Fletcher from Mercenary and a lot of the other reps from gear dealers do ... It lets the readers know where it is coming from. You can even include a link to your company if you would like.
