LOL! well you're right, I know I'm just a guy trying to find himself in this haven that is RO ... electrician by trade :o

floyd rose>EMG pickups> mxr dynacomp> high gain pre-amp> slight detune effect/or flange(TC electronics?)> light digital stadium 'verb with a prominent early reflection, and dynamic panning right to left.

Toto influence?

Not so, Smooth, Sometimes you will not get an answer because no one has anything helpful to say. In that case it is best to leave the post as it is so someone else can see it and perhaps make a reply. It's not that you are being ignored, it's just that I don't have every setting for every reverb in the world memorized.

any "pro ears" as u called them shouldnt even want to know how to achieve such godawful garbage...

... And I suppose *YOU* are the leading voice speaking for "pro ears" everywhere? How quaint. :p

Played twice and panned wide LF. There is a 1/2 note delay on the send with no repeats fed into a plate reverb with some predelay

Hey smooth,

You need to slow down your chops a little before you really piss off those of us who see how little you know and really begin to point it out. First thing, if you are such a pro then where are you or better yet who are you? How about a list of pro's as you call it you have worked with. I've been in this businees for over 25 years with a masters degree in broadcast engineering and this you are asking is beyond amature. I work with a different "pro" or national artist almost everyday. Post some of your mixes, names of artist you work with, etc. Not that bull crap you are asking us to listen to now or is that your best. BTW, it sounds like a Mackie console with Alesis ADAT and Alesis effects to me, the gear may be better but that's all you are getting out of it. But be careful because if you trully are a "pro" or not I/we will know you, so step out from behind that stupid 'smooth' name and reveal yourself (real name) before coming on here and making us find you and point you out as the chump you seem to be. BTW, you really don't want to get into the head of Kurt, it's scary in there.

My Real Name,

Kevin Mixson
Vice President RO
President/CEO TTM Music Group Inc.
Check me out and learn something!

P.S. Post up or shut up OR be gone for good. BTW, YOU need to read the 'rules of the site' again and maybe again so it might sink in a little... yep, i'm starting to get pissed.

falkon2 Sun, 05/25/2003 - 08:56

Kev: While I'm not on his side, I'd like to point out that he never called himself a "pro" per se...

But what the heck.
Smooth: I've never been able to stand pompous idiots who feel the need to prove themselves better than everyone. You got your settings, good for you. Why take a jab at Kurt? You made the first offensive move with the "I guess there are no pros here" remark (which, although you childishly edited out in some pathetic attempt to save face, still exists in quotes in later posts). Kurt sure as hell could have given you a more well thought-out answer, yet you choose to take his sarcastic response as an absolute measure of his "professionalism" (since we're using that word so much).

Heck, I don't consider myself anywhere near professional, but even *I* could have told you that those were two mono tracks hard-panned.

Only thing I can say now is - watch your step. You potentially could lose a lot more face in your next few posts, something I assert a person of your huge ego would not want.

Ah, and just in case you play the edit game again, here's a quote of your post.

NO, this thread will not be shut down. I want 'smooth' to give some real info here on himself. This is a forum and sh*t happends. I feel 'smooth' needs to stay on the playground and not run to the teacher because he might get a black eye.

Cheers,

Kevin
Vice President RO

P.S. People are welcome to come and post what they want on this site within the rules. I may be new to RO but I'm not new to this game. Post what you want but be ready to feel the repercussions of it when you do.

KurtFoster Sun, 05/25/2003 - 11:28

Well it appears as if "Smooth" was posting a test rather than seeking out the "helpful pro" he later whined about not being able to find. Just looking for some trouble. And btw, I don't delete threads or posts. If that was a recording by Smooth, which I doubt, I must say he is fu*kin great guitar player and I really liked the recording, the little bit I heard of it, but I honestly didn't hear any verb sound.. just a very stereo image. But we will never know because Smooth edited his first two posts, removing all the content and the link, so that no one else could listen and agree or disagree with me. Why did you do that Smooth?

I didn’t mean that to be sarcastic, I was earnest in what I was saying about leaving a post up so others could respond. I truly didn’t have anything to add although I did think it was a bit much for anyone to expect, that anyone would be able to pick out one reverb setting on a particular recording (especially one that is not very distinct) of all the hundreds of thousands of reverb programs available. I admit I was a bit annoyed that anyone would be so impatient and demanding ...

Originally posted by Smooth;

Opps ...I forgot there are no helpful pros here

...and to expect that someone would be able to be able to do this. It goes to show how much of a clue Smooth doesn’t have..

We run into this all the time, guys that come on to the site and think to themselves "I could be a better moderator than that guy".. Heeheehee. So, they think if they show someone up and try to embarrass them , someone will give them the mod job. Well I just don't understand how anyone can be so insecure to have to try to tear some one else down just to try to make themselves look/feel better. Funny thing is, that usually doesn't work. It reminds me of the quintessential miserable schoolyard bully.

So Smooth, I don't play that game... I don't care what you think of me or the people I have recorded.

Originally posted by Smooth;

That statement not only attacks me but some really fine musicians. It really shows us just how far up your ass you have your head.. Some of the cats I have worked with are freakin' legends dude and were much more than you could ever dream to be. I recived $15,000 to $20,000 advances on several of those records of "washed up musicians" you mention from major record lables. How much in advances have you recived? I get royalty statements and payments in the mail every few months. How many checks are you getting in the mail from your music, unemployment checks and nut pay SSI excluded? You simply show your ass writing something like that. You need an education in Blues and Rock N' Roll history.

I would ask, do you have records that are available in every Tower Virgin record store on the planet? Can I punch up 'Smooth" on a Goggle search and come up with a couple pages of results? I doubt it. I have been successful enough in my recording carrier to retire at 49, buy two acers in the woods, overlooking a senic river valley on one of the best fishing rivers in North America. I own three nice cars, an ATV and a ton of great recording gear. AND I don't owe a dime on any of it! I have the time to be here at RO most of the day. I meet some great people here and generally have a good time exchanging posts and occasionally, I have to deal with the likes of you.. that is the cost I suppose, there is no free lunch. So you see, I am happy with myself, something you obviously aren’t. It is Karmic justice that you have to live with your miserable self. That is good enough punishment. At least I have the courage to use my real identity and not hide behind some screen name and sling sh*t at people I resent for having found more success than I have. Perhaps your attitude may have something to do with that.

falkon2 Sun, 05/25/2003 - 18:41

Just for the record: Smooth's original first post in this thread was asking for a reverb setting for a piece of music. Now, while I might be wrong, I doubt he would have asked this if the music was his, originally. He could just have called up the studio he worked with to get his answer.

Of course, I might be wrong and he might be trying to reverse-engineer what the studio deems a trade secret. I find that highly unlikely, though.

falkon2 Sun, 05/25/2003 - 18:47

Also for the record: I use a screen name out of necessity rather than any real ego-trip problems. Sorry if this ruffles a few feathers, but it doesn't matter to me, because a search for my real name wouldn't turn up anything anyway. ;) I was actually tempted to post in the "History of RO members thread" with my entire resume: "I've released absolutely nothing. Do I get an award?"

I come here because I have an interest in music, an excellent ear (according to many), and my whole life ahead of me. I'm set on busting onto the music/production scene the moment I finish my current college degree. The advice I've gotten here thus far, even by remaining on the sidelines and listening for many of the discussions, is invaluable. This site is truly a treasure, indeed.

If anyone is curious, my real name is Au Yeong Khai Meng. Now, of course, I feel that putting that as my screen name would be equivalent in terms of scare factor to a bomb threat in a medium-sized theather. I'd expect roughly the same number of people running away screaming, too. ;)

realdynamix Sun, 05/25/2003 - 19:10

:) I have followed Falcon 2 around all the forums, he makes great music, has a real passion for the art, and will go very far,(don't get too big of of head now Falcon) hee hee.

Falcon and I have great conversations at least 2 or 3 times a week. His mission is his studies, and his plan is to be involved in music engineering. He wants to improve the quality and standards of audio. Rock on there Falcon!

Talk about insecure. Dude I could almost hear the violins in the backround.

The fact is you insulted me by saying you lost minutes out of your pathetic life all to say you hear no reverb on a part that was dripping in plate reverb.
You do this to help ---but your a bafoon who doesnt help anyone but just gives them an attitude

ever wonder why NO ONE ever comes hear anymore

jdsdj98 Mon, 05/26/2003 - 19:53

Smooth, let it go. You have to want to learn to have these guys help you. And plenty of people still come here, and get lots of great info out of this site. I have no idea what happened at the top of this thread, but as an RO fanatic, I'd like to ask the mods to close this thread. There's way too much mud on it. This one is in complete defiance of what we all want to see here. It did inspire me to quit hiding behind a silly moniker, though. Thanks.

anonymous Mon, 05/26/2003 - 20:55

The only good that can come from the continuation of this thread is Smooth learning that a flagrant breach of RO protocol will not be taken lightly by anyone. Not just the mods. I, for one, am here to learn from those with more experience. I regard this forum as an indispensable resource. Attacking a person's character or credentials without any credible evidence is immature and shows a total lack of respect for others and yourself.
It is possible, Smooth, that you have not sufficiently angered the mods to the point that you will not be allowed to post again. If that is the case, then show some respect for all of us here, and be adult about queries in the future. So far, you have not left a good first impression. However, you still have an opportunity to redeem yourself. I think many here would accept an apology and move on, if you are willing.

I apologize to everyone else if it seems like I'm beating a dead horse. It was just something that needed to be said.
It also seems like I have joined the ranks of those that have dropped the silly names. Ahh, how liberating!

In the immortal words of Al Cervik(those of you who know that name will undoubtedly know this line), "Keep it fair, keep it fair."

Jason

PS: I guess the cat's outta the bag. Hi, my name is Jason, and I'm a Caddyshackaholic.

Thanks Golli,
Yes I have already said I will not waste another minute of my life on him. So That is that. He buries himself with every word. He makes his claims but takes the posts and the link down. It is incredible that any one would expect someone to be able to pick out a reverb setting out of the hundreds or thousands that are available.

The fact is you insulted me by saying you lost minutes out of your pathetic life all to say you hear no reverb on a part that was dripping in plate reverb.
You do this to help ---but your a bafoon who doesnt help anyone but just gives them an attitude

Smooth says I insulted him but my post was simply in response to his post where he complained

Originally posted by Smooth:

It's ok for him to insult me but how dare I insult him..! He asks for the near to impossible. It's a test, set up to make the respondent fail. He complains when no one responds to his post, because what he is asking is really not possible, insults, snivels and whines until someone responds and then gets pissed at the response. I think it is impossible to make this guy happy. I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. I think he is actually trying to create conflict on purpose.

I would be glad to post something and see if Smooth could tell me what reverb it is. I bet he couldn't do it either. Then I will get to call him names and sh*t in his yard. Bottom line.. he a jealous looser that is pissed off about his life, so he has to take it out on someone he doesn't even know on the internet. Oh well, I guess that's better than kicking his dog, or sleeping with his mother..

Alécio Costa Mon, 05/26/2003 - 21:53

I have never seen such an unpolite person on a chat like this idiot. Kurt, do yourself a favor and to us, and lock this stupid post.

I bet this guy has another kind of intention besides asking for help.

Smooth, leave your misplaced childhood and commit suicide. You will do a favor to the humanity.

I am bired with these kind of idiots that appear once in a while. Fortunately only one or two appear during a whole year.

:) This is Smooths first post, a day after registration, from MAR 19,2003

Hi Guys
Just stumbled onto this site--look very nice and professional
Does anyone have any soundclip comparisions of these type devices. I hear so much about how they add warmth but even their own site wont offer side by side clips

I would love to hear side by side clips at the same amplitude if anyone has any or knows of a site that has them

Thanks guys

Reggs

Seems to have been influenced by something, given his attitude today, perhaps the holiday spirit(s).

Something cute:
(Dead Link Removed)

Looks like I was RIGHT on the money. Like I predicted in an earlier post... he came back. This guy fits very neatly in stereotype I like to call "reactionary shit-flinger". I'd say Kurt, that it's best that you lock this thread and be on the watch for new threads started by this guy just to do his crapjuggling. He's not going to just sit by and let you have the last say, oh no.

KurtFoster Tue, 05/27/2003 - 10:37

falkon2,
Thank you for your concern. I appreciate it. We can lock a thread, but as you point out, someone could just come back and start up on another thread. We could even kick someone off the forum but they can simply re-register under a new screen name and return. At that point we can trace them down to their ISP and block them from ever returning to the site. But that is an extreme reaction and in the long run I feel that action hurts the BB more than helps.

So the best thing to do with someone like this is to just ignore them. Let them sling their dookey for a day or two and when no one responds, they get bored and go away ... With that in mind, I don't lock or delete threads or posts except in the most extreme cases. I try to reserve that for things like if someone like a pedophile, satanic sadist, anti gay or anti Semite posts something really objectionable. This stuff is small change. Try to look at it like it is a reality game show.. How stupid can someone be? What will his next Not So Smooth move be??? :D It can be very entertaining when looked at in the right light.. Kurt

falkon2 Tue, 05/27/2003 - 10:44

I read you. I suppose I'm just too used to overly-large VGM forums where every other member is an immature fanboy stereotype. Here, these type of members seem more like a rare exception rather than the norm - I suppose that makes all the difference. Drastic action is taken almost literally on a daily basis over there. ;)

KurtFoster Tue, 05/27/2003 - 11:09

falkon2
Actually RO is quite large. We currently have over 11,000 registered members and we receive over 600,000 page views per month and we get several more hits in reply, every time Smooth makes another post! :D That translates to millions of hits every month! RO is one of the largest BBs on the Internet! It is actually amazing that there is not more of this going on here. But we try our best to keep it to a minimum with the tone the Moderators and management sets. We try to lead by example. It has to this point, been an effective strategy. Many times this stuff is a noise maker from another forum coming over here to try to throw a monkey wrench in the works, trying to drag us into the gutter with them. Kurt

anonymous Tue, 05/27/2003 - 11:31

Yeah, no attention should be spend at a person who does that. It's some guy who hates himself and tries to make somebody else's day miserable also. I also run a forum, with not as much hits as here but still with 120.000 pageviews a month and we also have some culprits sometimes. Like Kurt says. The best way is to ignore them :)
