Has anyone know well how to set up the buffers in Nuendo? There is an option to detect the buffers size, but I am not sure if I should use it. How will the buffer size affect my recordings?
I am using a PIV 2.4, 512 RAM, 40 GB 7200rpm HD, Nuendo 1.6 with a Tascam US-428. The OS is Win2000 Server

Do you monitor through Nuendo? If not, the settings arent nearly as critical and I would reccomend that you use a large, safe setting. I you do monitor through the software like I do, then things get a little complicated. I use Cubase SX 2.0 and I too have been looking for a thorough algorithm for setting buffer sizes. Then manual is very unenlightening indeed. Every time I run the buffer detector, it gives different values. What I have done is a trail and error process - I hook up a mic, load up a few live insert and send effects on the mic's channel, and listen for dropouts as I progressively lower the buffer. When I start to get dropouts, I have reached my lower bound. Then, I load up a big multitrack project; this should give dropouts at the lower bound buffer setting. Then, I raise the buffers until I hear no more problems. I am using an M-Audio Delta 66 and I get about 3 ms of latency. I'm sorry I couldn't help more, but like I said, i'm looking for a tidy little algorithm as well, so if you ever find one...
