Ok I've got a G5 dual 2.0, 3 gigs of ram. And a RME fireface 800. I want to add on 8 channels through the ADAT. Any suggestions for a grand or less that will be equal or better quality?

try the mackie 800R. it's around 1k, sounds great and is very versatile. imo, this is one of the best pieces of gear introduced in the past 10 years - good sound, good build quality and just damn affordable.
