I think thats because the 57 gets the mids right, that it sounds decent on anything. Its proximity effect is more useable than most other mics i find too. I used a 57 for overheads back when i had just a few mics, and it works surprisingly well there.

Ive always felt the d112 was best right up on the beater. Ive never liked it when it was outside the kik or towards the back. In your example it sounds fine when eq'd, but as far as raw sound ive always felt ut came to life close up.

Good observation on the D112. In this instance, I wanted all to be positionned the same way.. but it's true that it gets better when you put it inside.
I always thought of the D112 as raw sound needed work compared to The e602 or D6 which have pretty drastic built in EQ...

I agree. I only used the 602 once live but it was easy to get a sound. I think its eq is more universal than the beta 52. I think alot of people must have felt the same about the d112, because they added a selectable eq on the newest model.
