I'm getting mixed input from threads ive found here as well as outside sources.
up til now ive been really leaning towards getting the 2626.
i was also looking into getting the PreSonus until i heard from a friend that a friend had it
and it didnt work well with vista. not sure why, didnt really go into detail.
I'm not too worried about price range. I'm the type that will save the money.
although i would like to stay under 800. that is why i was leaning towards the m-audio.
the guys at guitar center told me the 2626 would work perfect. but, those guys will
tell you anything to get a sale. any feedback would be appreciated.
if you have any suggestions on other interfaces ive not found please provide.
I'm looking for a 8 input for purposes of recording drums, direct in guitar, etc.

How do you figure you are upgrading to 6gb of ram when you have a 32 bit operating system? 3 gb is the max Vista is gonna let you utilize.

Presonus is superior to M-Audio without a doubt. Do you need 8 mic pre's or just a combination of mic pre's and line inputs? If you stretch your budget you could get into a TC Electronic Konnekt 48.

did not know that. alot of the computers being built today are stock 4-6 gigs. does that mean they are all 64 bit os.
also i am leaning towards the presonus firestudio im just hoping this will work for me. i cant know for sure if the
guy experiencing the problem with it just didnt know what he was doing or if it was non compatible with sonar/vista32.
what do you suggest as far as an os? probably xp pro? its just so expensive thats why i bought vista when building.

If you see a computer with 4-6 gb of ram it will have a 64bit operating system.

I use Win 7 64 bit. It works well with all my interfaces and all of my DAW's-Audition 3, Tracktion 3, Reaper, PT 7-M and my video software Premiere Pro. I see no reason at all to use a 32 bit OS anymore. Also, do not use a "Basic" edition of an operating system as they are usually limited though often can be made to work if tweaked hard enough. I have used Vista Ultimate and Business successfully as well. Sonar will work just fine with either Vista or Win7 as will pretty much any current Presonus or M-Audio product. There are defective units out there but primarily the defect is the wing nut behind the keyboard.

lol. ok.... thanks for your help again.
i will look into updating my os. 1 more question.
if i upgrade to 7 64 bit will i have to reinstall everything. all my vst's and all that stuff
or will it let me keep everything and just update the os?
also, i should be able to get some type of deal for upgraded to 7 from vista amirite?

I'm not sure what the upgrade deal would be. I always do clean installs when I load an os which does require reinstalling all software. The important thing about the bit size is not the operating system really. It is the DAW itself. If you use a 64 bit DAW you do not want to use 32 bit VST plugs. Find 64 bit VST plugs instead.

The main issue w/ Presonus stuff has to do w/ Firewire chipsets.
Make sure it's Texas Instruments - or better yet, check it for compatibility @ presonus' site.
Vista is a resource hog, and as noted, 32-bit means only 3G RAM.
I'm in the same boat, wanting more RAM but needing 64-bit.
I own the 26/26 and love it.
I have had a few issues w/ it going haywire on me from time to time
Things like clock/sync issues, etc.
These were usually quickly resolved w/ a phone call to Presonus - and they always had me purge my machine of anything Presonus, then reload and update it all.
