I'd heard nothing but good stuff about the BBE Sonic Maximizer, and when I saw my guitarist had one in his rack, I decided to buy the plugin .

So I pay my $100 plus shipping and handling, install it in my computer, and this is what happens.

It deleted all my music files. All of them. I am not kidding. Once the installation process was done, it hummed away for a good three or four minutes, and then everything freakin disappeared. It erased a good 8 gigs of stuff. . . . needless to say I freaked. I called BBE but it was Saturday and no one was home.

Long story short, I recovered everything using Disk Doctor and saved it onto my external drive. I reinstalled Cubase onto my hard drive, along with the BBE plugin , but it's totally screwed up: It turns my stereo files to mono, and when I run it on one channel, it somehow mutes all the others. I can't even do a mix-down.

Needless to say, I am extremely unhappy about this. Does anyone else use this plugin ? Any problems?

Aiiiieeeee. . . . .

PS: Oh yeah, it also disables the pan function in Cubase. I can't pan an instrument left or right.

It just gets better and better.

ACK. That sounds catastrophic... Never used the plug, but I hope you get everything back up and working.

Are you sure that it was the plugin that deleted all your stuff, or could it have been a freak accident/virus/worm with coincidental timing?

I'd think that more complaints would have sprouted about the plugin by now, if anything.

It occurred right after I restarted my computer after installing the plug-in. FWIW, I did go to a DSL hookup a few days ago, but really. . . It had to be the plug-in.

I'm not a computer geek, but I kinda know my way around computers, too, and this was a really poorly-designed installation program. I will call up their tech support first thing tomorrow morning (don't worry about that) and get this thing resolved one way or another.

I'll be sure to let everyone know what happens. . . if I made a mistake, I'll be the first to admit it here. I sure don't want anyone else to go through what I did. . . I was so upset last night I actually felt sick.

I've never had any problems with the plugin. Although I don't use it that often its never been problematic in any way and I have it installed on 2 systems and also did a couple of reinstalls after replacing a couple of drives. Your situation indeed sounds like a virus attack.

Update. I reinstalled the program, this time using the non-Java option -- I'm not sure but it's possible I picked that one before. . . . oop.

So anyway, the plug-in is in place and works great when selected for Master FX but still doesn't work when applied to individual channels within the mix. As before, when I apply it to a particular channel it mutes all the others and plays the channel in mono (if stereo) as well as disabling its pan function.

Is that right? It can't be. . . otherwise, why would there be individual guitar, bass, etc. presets available?

I use the plugin with Wavelab and it works great for me. Thats a real shame you had to go through all those problems. I guess the "java" was the problem.
I don't understand why it would mute the other channels?? Or turn them to mono. Did you get the "882"?? Thats the 2 channel stereo version, the 442 and the 382 are both 1 channel (mono) processors!! Then again I don't use it on individual tracks, so I can't help ya there.
It's a very nice plugin, makes everything sound like a processed cd!!

Well, I had a nice conversation with Jed at BBE. . . we both had to laugh about the freaked-out phone message I left Saturday night, and I apologized profusely for being pretty pissed at the time (he said he could understand that).

Anyway, Jed says he's never heard of the plugin doing what I described, where the individual channels don't work but the Master FX does. It SHOULD function normally. All I can do is a complete uninstall, try to clean out every single remnant of the plugin, and then reinstall and see what happens.

i had problems with the bbe sonic maximizer before.. not as bad as you.. but i just ended up selling it.. it didn't do anything for me anyways..
but at the time i was running nuendo 1.53 and after i installed it nuendo was unstable.. it would close in the middle of a session. after in uninstalled it, the daw worked perfect.. these days i use Nuendo 2.01 and waves platinum 4... you don't need much else

Well, I reinstalled the plugin and nothing changed, so I deleted and reinstalled Cubase and the plugin.

Now I don't even get the VST Send in mono with the plugin activated. I get signal in the channel but nothing going to the master send.

This absolutely SUCKS. $100 for about 40% functionality. I can't even return it because it's software.

I am truly bummed about this.

Does anyone know of ANY conflicts with Cubase, Tascam USB units and plugins in general? Does anyone have any idea what this could possibly be?
