Hey! my name is Sam
I am currently getting ready to build my own 6x10 bass guitar speaker cabinit.
I've decided this, since I already love woodworking, I have the tools, and I heard it saves a lot of money.
However, I am not very fimiliar with wiring, ohms, crossovers, terminals, and what speakers I should buy. I want power and quality (which makes me no different than any other bassist in the world) but I'm willing to spend a good ammount of money.
What are some ways of wiring speakers? I've heard of "paralell wiring", but I have no idea what that means.
Does building your own cab really save money?
Does anyone have any advice that can help me out?

First off, "parrallel wiring" is when you take the "+" (positive terminals) on the speakers and wire them together,like a string. Then you take the "-" (negative) terminals and wire them together in a string.
Why have you chosen SIX 10" speakers? Because of impedance issues, you might consider either 4 or 8 speakers. Or build a 4x10" cab and a 1x15" (or 18") cab to get a fuller range stack going. 10" speakers usually are available in 8 or 16 Ohms. A 4x10" cab using 16-ohm drivers will result in a 4-ohm cab. Using a 6x10 configuration will yield a (16 divided by 6) wierd 2.666-ohm load. This is too low for your Ampeg ( or really any brand) amp to safely drive at low frequencies. There are various wiring configurations that may help this out, but they get pretty complicated.
I suggest that you go to the Avatar Speakers website and research the available Eminence Delta line of speakers designed for bass (Avatar builds cabs, but they also offer great deals on raw speakers for the do-it-yourselfer). You can also go to Eminence website for factory help in cab design specs for their products. Bass takes a GREAT deal of design-tuning to get the most low end out of the most compact cab. At least when compared to a "regular" guitar cabinet. Good Luck!

DIY will almost always cost MORE... you can't come close to the cost effectiveness of mass production... unless you have tons of speakers and lumber laying around... then maybe
but on the plus side, you'll actually LEARN something in the process.

Unfortunately you probably won't save any money but I can say that it is pretty fun, and if you do some research you make something that fits your needs exactly which is cool. My other suggestion would be to learn from the pro's. Check out a bunch of bass cabs decide which ones you like best as far as tone and features and start there. Good luck
