My buddy bought the Mbox (I think thats what its called) and now he is looking to upgrade to something with more channels (8), the Digidesign 001 is kinda pricey, and he would like something cheaper, but still use the pro tools software. I mentioned to him a MOTU 828 (cause I own one and have had good results with it I use Sonar though) but I am not sure if it Pro Tools would recognize it as an input.
thanks
Brett

The Digi001 is not just an I/O box. It is a system. It comes with the LE software, and the box itself does add some processing power.

When I hear people say that Digi stuff is over priced, it makes me wonder if they have really had a great demo, and understand the package.

In addition, if you buy a Digi system, you will not have to worry about compatability issues. You know up front that the software and hardware are compatable.

Another thing is that you can use MOTU and other software on Digi systems. Check the Digi compatability website.

Do yourself a big favour and forget about protools and the digi 001. I sold mine on ebay after two days of having it. They just don't sound any good. Get a motu 896 and Cubase sx, you will be much happier and you will have a lot of freedom with later purchases and upgrades.
Just an opinion.....
