hey i want to get a console for my studio just because ive never had one and would like to try it out. i use pro tools le and have the digi 02 rack so anything that could work with that and if you guys could maybe explain to me what i need to do in order to hook up the console you prefer ha i know I'm asking a lot but the guys at guitar center arent any help just want me to buy crap. thanks

One of the reasons why ProTools and the Digi 002 are so popular is that you don't need a console. The big studios are all getting rid of their audio consoles in favor of ProTools control surfaces. They only look like consoles. My friend and professional peer just sold his famous API console for $45,000 so he could purchase a Digi design C-24 control surface. Of course, is going to supplement that with 8 API preamps, 8 Neve 3115 preamps/EQ's and 8 Paul Wolff ToneLux preamps. The preamps in the Digidesign board probably won't see much use. As most of your recording is based upon your preamps and not all of the pretty knobs and dials.
If you've never used a console before it would be like wanting to own a duckbilled platypus. You could be happy that you have it but it really wouldn't offer you anything except a nasty sting. The other analogy would be to own a big block V-8 engine without a chassis or body. Wouldn't do you much good as you can't travel on an engine.
I own a silver and gold plated 128-year-old Cornet that I don't play anymore because it sounds like a 128-year-old Cornet.

That's right, the 3115 has not been manufactured for quite some time. The 1073 did go back into production. The basic difference between the 1073 and the 3115 is that the 1073 used a single output transistor. The 3115 used a pair in push pull configuration, operating in class A/B. Both the 1073 and 3115 input sections are class A. It's only the outputs that differ. So, I really feel that of 3115 is on a par with the 1073. A little-known and well-kept secret. I know that Randy Ezraty in NYC had numerous racks of 3115's that he used where he couldn't get his remote truck into, or more wanted that classic sound. I just sold 16 of my 3115's at $1500 each which is about half of what you would spend on a 1073. PLUS! YOU GET ONE EXTRA TRANSISTOR!
I'm keeping the rest of those but others like the 3415 summing amplifier/line drivers and the 3724 I/O module's will soon also be sold off as those can be modified to be just microphone preamps with those wonderful Saint Ives Windings input transformers and Marinair Radar output transformers. Those will be a great Bang for the buck at about $500 each. If I rack them up and include power supplies and connectors, they'll probably go for about $800 each.

You should've just bought the 002 console. Do you want something that will function as a control surface as well? What's your budget?
Incidentally you could probably trade the 002 in for an 003 console(with a considerable payment of course). Not such a bad idea since you will probably pay thru the nose for a console/control surface with ADAT output.
