Cool edit 2000 studio problem

I'm very new to recording anythong on a computer, and I got Cool edit 2000 with the studio plugin . It records fine, but when i go to record a second track while the first one plays, the timing gets messed up. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I guess it's a crystal soundfusion CS 4281.

That qualifies as low quality. I doubt there is anything you can do about it short of upgrading to a quality sound card such as an Audiophile 24/96 or EMU 0404.
