Well, no one's replying to this post in the mastering section, so maybe i'll try it here...
After I've completed my music and I put it in my CD player, it sounds perfect everywhere I've heard it so far, but I'm getting some "crackling" when I played it in my car through a portable CD player. I was wondering perhaps if anyone could perhaps give me a little advice as to how to clean that up? It has to be something dealing with the frequency of the signal. Maybe my car stereo just doesn't want to accept this signal. Or perhaps it's the portable CD player I have hooked up to it? But even then shouldn't that not matter? I have Cool Edit Pro 1.2a and WaveLab v4.0. I have Cubase too, but for some reason that's not working right. It's speeding up my Wavesin playback. So I'm down to just CEP and WaveLab. Any suggestions?

In the old days, recording at a slower speed was an issue, due to wobble, etc. But now, the error correction is good. You can record as fast as you want, and it will not make any difference. All errors are correctable at up to 200x. So that eliminates speed.
I can't tell you what caused it. Is it possible that your car system has better resolution than your monitors? What monitors do you have?
Generally clicks and pops in digital audio are clock related. I CAN tell you how to get rid of it. Sonic's NoNoiseplug-ins They work great! I recently mixed a project where the tracking engineer had an inferior house sync system, which caused all kinds of pops/clicks throughout the recording. I used the NoNoise stuff and it eliminated them all.

If it sounds "perfect" everywhere else...it's almost for sure not the cd. It's something todo with your portable cd plaer and it's interaction with your car stereo. I'd hazard the guess that the cd uotput (headphone jack?) is overloading the input to the stereo.

The Cubase progarm is probably @48k and the wave files you imported were @ 44.1? Check the SAMPLING FREQUENCY of all your programs and keep it the same. I'd work @ 44.1Khz if I were you. jsut to make things smoother in all cases.

Alright, since you're having trouble getting an answer, I'll offer a guess. I've been told that some cd players freak out if the material is normalized to 0db. I've never owned such a player, could be stuff of myth, but try re-normalizing a little off 0db and see if your portable can handle that.
