Here's the story: I am more than happy with my current processor, etc...Intel P4, 1.6Ghz, XP Home...the issue has become (again) storage and whatnot...
Since I am not up to speed on these things, can someone please take the time to guide me?
1. Many older PT systems I've seen had several Macs locked together, presumably with SCSI...recording to several different drives at once (one main, one backup, one archive)...Is this still the 'preferred' method?
2. Our actual PC is using 2 hard drives; both internal...there are no more IDE slots to install a firewire card, and the USB is wired directly to the MB...are there any reasonable internal - external cabling setups or adapters that would allow me to route the "D" drive internal connections to an external connection, to allow readily accessible drive change-outs?
3. It is my goal to have a) accessible drives for removal/storage/etc...b) DVD archive burner attached to this same external bank...c) simultaneous record to drive and external drive, a redundant system if you will...
4. Is this do-able, or merely a pipe dream? Are there things I can add on, or am I looking at a whole new system?

Or you could simply install a removable drive bay where you now have a fixed internal drive and put such drive in it: this will allow you to swap trays and use a single drive for each project/backup; that's how I do with my system;
one word of caution: get several trays of the same manufacturer as the sleds change from time to time and you may risk to not be able to put a X brand tray into Y brand socket; get good quality trays, as continuous plug, unplug can wear the connections out and in time make the tray unusable.

PCI slot on the PC MOBO? You can buy IEEE 1394 cards for PCI slots for a song (like $30/40 bucks), then you can add in hot swappable firewire drives till the cows
come home. let me know if I can help. I'm pretty good with computer nerd stuff.
