I've been producing music for 30 years mostly in the tv/ radio broadcast realm. I 've always been a musician first and an engineer
somewhere down the line. As the equipment got better and cheaper
our options increase and now making records in our garage is a reality.

I have a fairly high end MOTU system with my front end being the 1296 into the pci 424 card. I mix thru a Yamaha 02r into a dbx
quantum into aes/ebu on the 1296 and back into Digital Performer
so my mixes have the same time code as my multi track.

I'm ready to step up to a dedicated A/D converter such as apogee's
rossetta series or the "big ben". I'm jusy very confused as to how one
would set them up. Do I route all of my mic preamps into the unit and have it become my new front end, or do I mix thru it on the back end?

Some clarification here is needed. Thanks
