How to mix fat rhythm guitars

Hello there, I have a question. I heard people saying about doubling rhythm guitars for the left side then for the right side so you can have some heavy/fat guitars... how do you pan those? Hard left and hard right or hard left/45 left and hard right/45 right? Thanks!

I'm liking my guitars panned in a bit, not so wide anymore, maybe 9 and 3. What I have been doing on heavy stuff is high passing to 100 or 140 and then pumping 100hz or so with an EQ. Gives you bottom without mud.
