Hi everyone, this my first post, i hope i'm not too much of a newbie to you...
ok here's the deal: i have the Tascam us-122, which is pretty nice for recording guitar and voice but due to whatever reason sucks ass with MIDI. i've done quite some research and it appears to be a problem for everyone who owns it in terms of bad latency.
So i'm thinking of getting a emagic mt-4 as a midi-controller. my question is: i only have an e-piano as my midi-in to i even need a big MIDI-controller, or would a simple gameport/MIDI-converter be enough?
I'm fairly new to MIDI so i don't really know how to do all the routing or whatever... but i'm very eager to learn more, anyone knows a site where there is a good introduction to that. because the ones i have found via google haven't really done it for me
and one little question: i got the Tascam us-122, a Shure sm-58, the e-piano. So is that ok (besides the MIDI-thing) or do i need anything else for a good start in Homerecording.
I have recorded mostly voice and e-guitar (squire stratocast). evrything else will be vst...

If I understand your setup correctly, it won't matter if you get another MIDI interface or MIDI controller. The latency issue is likely due to your 'sound card'. I assume you are using your US122 for audio output. If so, your latency lies there.
I believe the interface on this device is USB 1.1. Unfortunately this does not offer enough bandwidth for some of the more intense, real time monitoring. It is OK for direct monitoring. But, with most soft-synths and even real time audio monitoring (particularly with effects) latency will be an issue.
Introducing an external controller/interface will change nothing. This is because your ultimate audio output will still be coming through your US122 and it's inherant latency still applies.
Unfortunately, the only way around this is a higher quality, lower latency audio inteface (PCI, Firewire, PCMCIA for laptops or USB 2). What you use depends strongly on your current platform. I will be happy to make some low cost suggections if you let us know what your current computer platform is.

then it might be easier and better to igrore the electric piano for now and get a USB keyboard /controller.
However a cheap Game port adapter lead should be cheap and might be a good start.
