ive been abusing this forum with questions about overheads, so I'm sorry . . new question though. i have one Shure ksm27 and i was thinking about getting another to use as Overheads (Davedog...i tried the 603's as OH's and didnt like one bit the sound i got, sounded very tinny and a bit harsh). .anyways, would i be better off gettin another ksm27 and using the two of them as oh's orrrr. .i was considering buying a pair of Neumann KM84's. i know the Neumann's are obviouslly better. but are there any other 'professional' quality oh's that might fall under the 1,600 price. but i mean, if the quality of the Neumann's are far greater than the KSM27's, then i will go that extra step and get them... i dont wanna be cheap.so knowledgable people of this forum,. . i turn to you

My Microphones as of now:

1 x Shure SM57
1 x AKG D112
1 x Shure KSM27
2 x MXL 603's ..(but i hate em' as OH's)

Once again, look into the Oktava MK-012s. $200 a pair. Outstanding mics. Also, I second the AKG 414s, although they might be a little bright depending on your room.

And for the third or fourth time, I would not recommend the KSM27s as your primary overheads unless you've got a very controlled room.

I've heard many many recordings using those cheapo Oktava's and man I'm impressed every time. They just get the job done. I've even heard a clip from John Scrip of Massive Mastering where he recorded an orchestra with just two Oktava overheads and a behringer two channel pre going into an old i think it was sony hd recorder. It was the most amazingly clear sound I ever heard, well that may be pushing it but the recording was amazing, he actually posted it on another forum to show people with cheap gear what they can really do.

Ok I found the link its from Tweaks website, so I'm sorry I'm not trying to piss off anyone just trying to help.
