I would like to be able to simply set up a cable between my PC and Mac to transfer digital audio files. Can this be done and how? Do I need a special software interface? What kind of physical cable is best for this?

This software allows you to connect the two platforms together seemlessly..otherwise you would have to create special UAM folders which only the Windows Server has embedded into it..
This would be the easiest approach to this..ethernet cable between the two with this software and you'll be good to go!
