Im hoping someone here may have had the same thing happen to them
and know what to do here.Ive been searching for answers with no luck yet.
I cant open a session because it is set to transfer only.
So I go to workspace to change the settings but I get a message
saying it is not a valid audio volume.
Ive tryed re installing pro tools with no luck.
Ive been to disk utility to change permissions but the button is greyed out.
Verifying the disk and repair disk are ok.
This only started after I backed up all my sessions from my ext Lacie HD onto a new Lacie Stark HD last week.
Im really getting the sh*ts with this sitting in Limbo Buzz.

But, is the Workspace directly related to hitting Command + I to get the disk's info, then making sure it's set to read and write? I thought that the Workspace allowed PT to utilize the disk, but if the OS doesn't allow it, it still won't work.

Have you been to the DUC (Digi User Conference)? There is a sticky "Audio must be on a record volume" that has many pages of problems and solutions.
You are not alone and the problem is solveable. Mine was a quick fix but others have had this issue before.
