I recently purchased a desktop from ADK, and while I am happy with it for the most part, I am having some serious problems with basic stuff. I'm hardly even using any of the comp's power and when doing simple things like opening a plugin or saving or even when I open a project, my DAW freezes and doesn't respond, which usually results in a force quit. I have the computer nearly stock, with the addition of a few Quantum Leap plugins. I am pretty positive my drivers are all what they should be (I am able to record and make projects, I just often run into problems.) I know this probably doesn't give a lot of insight into solving the problem, but I really have no idea what else to try and I would love some suggestions. Thanks a lot. Here's what I'm running:
ADK Quad Core, Intel i7, 6GB RAM, Windows 7 64 bit, Sonar Producer 8.5, PreSonus Firebox (I also have a Firepod which I am currently not using), and all drivers are 64 bit. I'm recording at 96kHz at a bit depth of 64. Like I said, I'm not pushing the computer to a dropout or anything, it just doesn't repsond.

An increase in the buffer size might make a difference. Might as well try it. The DAW could lock up for a number of reasons. You may need to do some experimenting. Try removing any add on plugins to see what happens. Reinstall the DAW if still problems and see if that helps.

Bad or intermittent firewire or usb cables can cause this issue. I would change the cable first with a known good cable. Secondly, I would triple check in the DAW that the Firebox is the selected audio card. If you are somehow using the onboard audio chip this would cause the lockups in a heartbeat.

Holy cow! Big time over kill and drain on the processor plus huge file sizes.
Drop the bit depth to 24 and sample rate to 88,200. In fact in many cases
16/44,100 is just fine.
