if i had pro tools and an mbox, could i use other hardware with it also, like an ADAT card that i already have?

If you were to get a 001 or 002 you can hook up an extra 8 ins and outs optically. So an old adat tape machine in record ready can give you an extra 8 inputs, as well there are a lot of optically connected i/o's out there i.e. Alesis AI-3, Digimax LT, Rosetta 800, Octapre, etc. that will all connect optically to the 001 or 002 line via the adat ports.
