Hey I'm recording a band for the 2st time ever on thursday, i have a PreSonus firepod (8 mic preamps) and an apple laptop with logic express.

What i was wandering is could anyone give me sum advice on Micing up drums, i know guitar amps you place the mic on the edge of the 2 cones but am clueless about drums.

Also if anyone can suggest some special techniques in Logic to get a good sound, I'm only recording drums, 2 guitars, and bass, so can have one guitar with 2 mics, 2nd guitar w/one, bass w/one, drums with 4.

chronic, I believe you're also lacking in your knowledge on putting microphones on guitar cabinets also? I don't always put microphones on the edges of the " 2" cones. In fact frequently, I'll place it smack dab in the middle of the speaker.

You've also answered your own question regarding the drums. With 4 inputs, I guess you could imagine bass drum, snare drum and a pair for overheads. In a crappy sounding basement studio, keep your overheads lower, within 2 feet overhead. If you have a nice-sounding large open sounding bright room, run your overheads about 6 to 8 feet over top of the drums.

Just make sure that you do not run your gain trims too high. You can do that if you really want crappy sounding drums. Obviously plenty folks do.

Good with drums
