so I'm in deep thoughts about revamping my rig. right now, I'm using:

DIGI 002R
dual core G5 - 2 gb ram
2 Grace 101's
Trident s20
TC Elec. Gold Channel
Distressor
Alesis Masterlink
PT LE 6.4
Mackie HUI

I'm really in consideration of picking up a decent mixing console...not a hige SSL for many reasons, but even something like a Soundcraft E12 or M Series. My HUI hands-on feel is cool, but I'm just not thrilled with mixing in the box anymore. I would love to utilize a decent board, and just dump a mix down to my masterlink, and using the computer for some minor processing and more for editing only.
anyone have thoughts on the console and the soundcrafts in general? i used a SC Ghost in the past, and thought they were great.
i guess my concerns should be 2 major things: AD/DA conversion and I/O counts. I like my current setup, but again, mixes ive done inside and outside or pro tools are just wayyyyy too different...with the latter being more rounded, more wide, and just bigger sounding. I'd like to do that everytime. if i do a session in 88.2 khz, it helps a lot...but I'm still thinking of making the change.
does anyone think I'm nuts or is there a valid argument to switch?

thanks!

hmm

ahh, the budget! well, not sure really. "reasonable" i would imagine. I cant afford a room-wide SSL board thats for sure, but perhaps something 5-7K range perhaps. i can also unload some things to make up for it as well...and since I am planning on soon enough earning from doing recording work, I am willing to invest.
I do mainly rock/alt rock/acoustic/SS music...but also may venture into voiceover work.
