Hey guys,

Posting here because I'm out of answers and could use some help. I'll try to keep it as short as I can.

I've been running XP on the DAW I built 10 years ago with nary a problem. Rock solid. I have a $1,000 software licence on it from AudioTX that I will lose if I change any hardware, like the HD or MoBo - so that's why the unit is so old.

To preserve the old drive, I decided to load a new drive with Win7-32 bit on it (processor won't support 64 bit) and only power up the old drive when I have an ISDN session. So, I gotta keep the MoBo. and I need to run Win7 so I can use SoundStreak.

Did all the tweaks to Win7, fresh install, new drive. Updated chipset and graphic drivers. For the most part, it runs great. .but every now and then (at least once or twice a day) I hit playback and the audio sounds like s***. Constant static through the whole file. I have determined that it records this way and is not a playback issue.

Using an M-Audio Delta 44, which is as old as the DAW - about 10 years. I'm wondering if there's an issue with the drivers and Win7?

Keep in mind...this soundcard, MoBo, memory and everything run rock-solid on the old drive running XP, (using AA 3.0) so it's gotta be some sort of issue with Win7. Again, I've done just about every tweak imaginable.

Your thoughts. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thx.

Hi ProVotalent,
I used to have 4 delta cards and I had the same probleme you have. The drivers are not very good from M-Audio, specially the asio one. Try older versions and try WDM..
I tried so many things on windows 7, I guess every little things count because It worked for a few years. search for latency monitor online. try to identify where it comes from
I used a independant driver from OMEGA for my nvidia video card and it helped a lot.. I think they stopped developping new drivers.

let me know!

Thanks so much for the input! I will try your suggestions for sure; I had a hunch it was driver-related - not your usual "odd click and pop" scenario which normally speaks to CPU load, etc.

Funny you mentioned nvidia - that's my graphics card; a Geforce 6200. It's AGP...the best I could do with the old board. I hate working with old gear, but I'm stuck with this board for a while, or lose $1,000 worth of software.

I'm at the lake this weekend but will try it out when I get home Tuesday.

Thanks again. Have a great weekend!
