I am using a Crate Palomino V32 series amp and have just started to notice some popping and crackling... which never sits well in a mix. This is only on the clean channel, but it still makes me believe it to be the tubes.

Even if no guitar is plugged in and the volume is all the way down or up, doesn't matter. Here's a link to the popping.

Space, you're such a jokester!

I suspect that the first thing to check is a preamp tube in the clean channel. This is typically labelled as "V1", and will be the tube furthest from the power transformer (to minimize noise), probably a 12AX7.
Let the amp warm up, then tap gently on this tube with a pencil or wooden dowel (metal can damage a hot tube ). Have the amp's volume up a bit. Can you hear that tapping on the tube through the speaker(s)? Is it louder than the other tubes you tapped on? Does it aggravate the popping noise? If so, replace that tube. At least that's where you start...You may also have a bad resistor in the circuit contributing to this, this will take an amp tech to troubleshoot.

It's the little things Mr. Moonbaby that fascinate me. Far be it from me to drag my woman's opinions on who needs to take what pill for what into these types of family conversations.

With no disrespect to the op, but linking to the popping noise?

Priceless...how does that sit in the mix?
