I would like to hear from anyone that is using XP Professional 64 bit. I've read many times people complaining after they have installed it that it appears to be slow. Slow downloads. Programs open slower. Things like that.

I don't see why this would be true however. If anyone here is using XP Professional 64 bit please give me your observations and if you are happy using it.

Well, you really have to realize that there really isn't anything written for XP Pro 64-bit. So that could be a problem? As big a problem as Vista. So you may actually want to consider XP Pro 32-bit version, or perhaps a dual-boot system? It's more compatible with everything we are currently using today. Sure it might be slower? Maybe twice as slower? It has to process 32 more bits than the other version. Anything your computer has to do more of will take extra time. So newer doesn't necessarily mean better.

Why don't you see how this could be true. A lot of people get this but dont realize that they don't have 64 bit applications or drivers or even hardware and as such it runs like crap.

Honestly, if you are into music/recording, the only advantage you get out of XP 64 is more memory access. If you are maxing out what you currently have, then perhaps you should look into it. If not, stick with the 32bit version.

There was no problem finding 64 bit XP drivers for everything I have. Not an issue in the least. Maybe a year ago it was an issue but not now.

The price of the operating system is fairly cheap compared to what I paid for the 32 bit version.

I may take the plunge. Plus my DAW is made Large Address Aware.

My machine is newly rebuilt. Already got a 64 bit processor. Should not be an issue. You don't need to run 64 bit applications. You can still run most 32 bit applications on a 64 bit system.

I discussed this with a tech at the store I maintain and he told me his experiences with using 64 bit Windows is equal to if not faster than the 32 bit version.
