If not the same service why accept the work?
Forums
I guess I'm a little flustered become of a recent experience with one the top mastering engineers in the business. I must say that I was disappointed with his work. My master CD reference was returned with no eq just limiting, outside of that unchanged.

Raise volume or just limit?
Forums
I recently mastered a project that a guy recorded at home in Cubase and he said he wanted it the level raised but not totally slammed. I ran it through an analog path for EQ and a little compression and did the limiting with L1. However I hit it he wasn't all that happy with the result and said it sounded smooshed.

Orchestral Mastering?
Forums
Does anyone have any tips on mastering orchestral recordings? It seems to me that one would want to preserve as much of the dynamics as possible. Is any EQ, maximizing or compression ever applied? Of course each situation might warrant different techniques, but what might the ‘norm’ be—if any?

Mastering Project update for Oct 11th.

Hello all!
As luck has it...I am going through a divorce and moving.
I will resume the mastering project and mailouts on the week of October 20th.
This is my NEW address...please make a note of it.
Sorry for the delay but moving 20,000 pounds of equipment 700 miles is a royal bitch.
New address here:

What's this "No-Mastering" clause on MixFest?
Forums
Not that I disagree with the sentiment, but then what's a "rough mix"? I consider my mix done when I've done my best with it, but I'm pretty darned certain that doesn't mean I've mastered it. Are you talking about leveling/normalization, or anything to do with the two track AFTER initial mixdown?
