What is the sound difference between different tape formats?

Years ago I was fortunate enough to record a few songs using a professional reel-to-reel machine. It was an Otari MTR-90 2 inch 24 track. I have since used high quality converters from RME, Lynx, and Apogee. Although, they were all extremely adequate "especially the Lynx", they never seemed to give me the same realistic top-end or BIG sound that the Otari recorder did.

Decisions, Decisions... which takes to keep

I got to work with a great musician friend of mine yesterday, Tom Work, a regional veteran, came in to record a Rick 12 track for one of the songs on this project.
Tom is a consummate pro, and we did four separate passes all the way through this song, where he slightly varied the performance on each take - voicings, tonal alterations using different pickups, phrasing.

who's good with electronic parts ?

I can't source an old part, transistor fet dual, LS844-SOIC-8l, that is out of
a personus ADL 700, instrument input .
Does anyone know what could be used as an alternative .

Theres SFA info, and nowhere in Australia has that part,it is from 2000, so Im thinking, there must be
a newer part that does the same job .

Have to vent a little.

I've really grown weary of the majority of music listeners using their laptop speakers, or cell phone/iPad and earbuds as their primary way of listening to music.
With all the advancements in technology, high res video, audio, amazing advancements in communications ... when it comes to listening to music, we've actually regressed.
