Please offer perspective. The comments I have been reading on other forums scares me.

If anybody is interested,here'sa URL of a mix I just finished that needed major Fixing. I think the drummer was playing to his own imaginary clock. And there were absolutely no guitar parts that supported the vocal either. So, I edited the drums and bass, and we re-did all the guitars in 3 hours on monday evening. Budget is an issue.

hey jules,
i heard in a previous topic that you use to monitor your mix with a stereo PT monitor. I guess you do this with an aux stereo input, busing Master fader to it, then output through converter etc..
I do this way too as i don't have a decent console or stereo monitor-pre to drive my speaker's amp.

I once cut out some peices of paper, each with different words on them:

EQ
Compressor
De-Esser
Mic Pre
Mic

And droped them on a table in front of 4 very experienced engineers. It was funny the way they argued and scratched their heads as to 'the right order' for them. There was no uniform concensus at all.

I'm a mobile type man myself...i appreciate the benefits of being able to afford a way in which i can master and mix on the move. Okay, so what's the best laptop out there that'll alow me to do this? Sony Vaio? And what extra hardware would i need to midi my equipment and mic?
