How to cope with video on Pro Tools
Hi Jules. Hi everyone!
I'm having a dilemma and I hope it's not too off topic. I run a small music production company doing pieces for ads and corporate videos.

Recording: What you love or hate about tracking?
Ok, since I just noticed the title of the forum has changed to Tracking and Mixing, we can officialy talk about recording too. I'm all for that, cause tracking is my favorite thing to do, with clothes on that is. I think the thing I like most about tracking is every new session is a clean slate.
Patchbay question ...
I'm looking to get some patchbays installed and there seems to be a HUGE difference in price between A-Gauge and B-Gauge bays. What is the difference?
Also, Maplin used to sell a DIY bay consisting of a 2U pre-punched panel and circuit boards . does anyone know of a company still offering this?
Ta :)

Lucid GENx-6 price reduction?
Hi.
I noticed on the Lucid site, in the information for the new GENx6-96, that the list price of the GENx-6 was supposedly reduced to $499 as of Sept. 30. Has anyone seen this reflected in dealer prices yet?
here is the link:http://www.lucidaudio.com/products/product_genx6-96_info.htm

Led Zeppelin Mic technique
I was wondering what exactly the mic setup was for john bonham. I know that they used 3 mics. I think they used one out front, one behind him about shoulder high and one overhead? Is anyone familiar with this? And what kind of mics did they use?

DAW or Console
We have recorded our album using a Pro Tools Mix+ system w/ a Lucid ADA8824 & Digi 24 bit ADAT brg, a Mackie 8 bus, (2) FATSO's for tracks, and a VariMu on Vocals w/ a U87 mic. As we are doing hip hop/R&B we did not use any acoustic instruments. We ran all the tracks through the FATSO's in a few passes & recorded the vocals with the U87.

Variable MU, Distressor or LA-2A for tracking Vox
Which compressor would you prefer for tracking VOCALS to a DAW? If none of the above, what would be your first choice?
OneMan
Raise volume or just limit?
I recently mastered a project that a guy recorded at home in Cubase and he said he wanted it the level raised but not totally slammed. I ran it through an analog path for EQ and a little compression and did the limiting with L1. However I hit it he wasn't all that happy with the result and said it sounded smooshed.
