I have been really digging some of the stuff he has engineered recently and I was just wondering if Glyn Johns is still alive. I'm figuring he'd be in his 60's or 70's by now...

Thanks for the replies on my 2 track editing/mastering thread. I've decided to stay with the Mac and get either Masterlist CD or Adaptec's Jam. I was hoping to hear from user's of either program about some features. Can either program put indexes in the middle of an audio file for continuous music (no gaps)?

Just thought you folks might be interested to know that tutorials for DP3 can be found at www.coolschoolonline.com, search through the links and you will find a short (5 min or so) segment with a QT movie at the end that features, ta-da, DP3.

Does anyone know where I can find details about the 528? Lotsof info about the 528e, but I cannot find how that differs from the 528. (I'm about to buy a used 528... That's why.)

Any info on the 528, how good is it, better get something else,...

Is it true to say: "Truncating without dithering is always a bad thing"?

As a follow-up:

A customer who has mixed at 24-bit, suppplies the 2-track mixes in 16-bit (I appreciate that you would prefer the 24-bit masters, but you ain't gettin' 'em). Would you ask for these to have dither applied by the customer?

Hey- I've got a Beige G3 233 in the studio right now, and I'm having a hell of a time getting it to not lock up. It's got OS 9.1 (which I understand may be the problem...), a 40g IBM on a Sonnet ATA100 card (partitioned as 4 10G's), 288M RAM, Digital Performer, and a 2408. It has no modem, and the only other programs installed are Audiodesk and Retrospect (for a VXA1 tape drive).

Can anyone give me a comparison of the RE20 to the RE50. I have heard a lot about the RE20 but no one mentiones the RE50. What are the differences? I recently found one in a box of junk that someone gave me years ago. I tried it on the snare on the last recording I did and we thought it sounded better than the SM57. Thanks

Just wondering what the gurus say - I use a Yamaha AW4416 and the editing is terrible! So I plan to pick up an ADAT card for my PC and fly tracks over for editing. As I have a few MIDI boxes (drums, keyboards) but don't normally use MIDI much at all, I was thinking now's the chance to get everything connected and synced up.

I have a PC based setup with an Event Gina (20 bit) that sounds great for what it is. Good outboard helps me get good results with it. I recently upgraded to a Yamaha AW4416 to get away from the PC, to be more mobile, and get a better mixer, among other things.
