Type of mic?
Hi,
I recently saw a live session of Steve Earle/Del McCoury, and was curious as to what type of mic was used? Also, was this the same type of setup used to record "The Mountain" CD?
Thanks

Hey everybody!
Bob Ludwig
i hear so much about him and when i look at his client list it's like war and peace, but what is it that makes him so good? I heard two different albums of a band, one mastered by bob and the earlier album was someone else, and all i could tell was that bob cranked it really loud and it was less open than the earlier album(but of course it would sound good on the radio...yippie).

Drum Micing Questions
I have a really basic question (even though I'm sure that the answers probably won't be!)...I've always heard that there are so many different ways to record a good set. Is there any particular technique that you should use over any other? The Shure Kit I have (with the SM57's) seems to be able to handle it...
ANY ideas or suggestions would be great! Thanks!

General Practices / Settings to start?
Just curious to get some info from those who have experience with many projects. Do you find there are a basic range of compression settings that work for a rock mix? Obviously you have to use your ears and each mix is it's own thing. Do you find you use less compression on mixes done from an analog multitrack or 2-track?

Favorite MIDI keyboard controller
I need to buy a MIDI keyboard controller. The problem is, all the ones I have seen have been flimsy and cheap. Not even inexpensive, just cheap. I prefer semi weighted keys and 61 or 73 keys.

Hows this for a front end?
I've been tearing my brain to pieces trying to pick a middle line preamp. Does anyone have any comments on using the Langevin Dual Mono Mic Pre with EQ? It can be had for about $1100. What about the Langevin Pultec? Good stuff? No?
One last question... the PreSonus MP20 claims to be a discrete class A preamp. Anyone heard this thing? Good price if its decent.

Live 8 track recording equipment?
I get the impression several of you think ADAT's will soon be a thing of the past. I have been using mine for live eight track recording projects and it has worked well for me. What would you all recommend as a replacement with a reasonable cost? I need to record up to five hours of music and ADAT tapes make a very cost effective method.

ok, lets get serious...
After the last topic everyone seems quite satisfied, hmm.
How about quantizing itself? Do you quantize all your instruments?
No, I'm not talking about MIDI but Guitars, Basses, Piano or Brass?
Do you just go strip silence, quantize and give it a go? :D
tschüß, Niko
