I bought my HDR2496 in early march. I'm using it primarily as a "tape replacement" altho I actually upgraded from a piar of VS1680s which I locked together. Plan is to take my studio from expensive hobby to a business this summer.

I know this has probably been brought up before, but I would appreciate opinions on the best brand names of mic and line cable and the reasons why cable can make a difference in the sound. Oxygen free, gold ends, gauge, etc. all seems to come up from time to time. Your suggestions would be appreciated.

I've just found a Telefunken TAB T-30 channel strip + compressor strip (lifted out of a console) but can't find any info out about it. I bought it on ebay because it looked cheap ($200) and I'm a sucker for impulse buys. I can buy a duplicate for the same price If i agree to do so now (i.e. before the first one arrives ) but I'd like to know a bit more about it. Can anyone help ?

It's an old RCA ribbon mic. It has a square brownish/charcoalish body. The RCA logo isn't the big red round one, it's square. The ribbon inside goes over the top and down the back. It seems to be a figure eight pattern but also has three switch positions (patterns? impedance? low cut? wha?).

i am seriously considering buying a G4 dual 533 (will definitely as soon as nuendo is released on MAC) but i have NO experience whatsoever with MAC OS of any type. is there a way (or need) to optimize a MAC as windows needs to be? and, is it safe to run other non-audio apps as well?

A public beta for Acid version 3.0 is on their site for download. Haven't futzed w/ it yet, but I thought some of you might want to give it a whirl.

Quick question,

So, I've been recording this band, and we were after drum takes. Typically we would end up with 5 takes, and then load the 3 best into Pro Tools to edit between. The drums sounded really good through the monitor section of the console we were using (I don't say this to brag, it's actually an important component of the story). The Producer was very happy with the drums off tape.
