Recording drums for deathcore/metal band next saturday...any words of wisdom?
Im an audio/video student in northern illinois, my band is tracking drums for our demo and I just wanted to see what kind of advice everyone could throw at me. I plan to close mic toms/snare/kick (2 mics on kick, a bd mic near the outer rI'm and an sm57 near the beaters to get the "click" that us metalheads love) and then doing x-y Micing for the overheads.

I came across this idea while attending a little workshop put on by some of the heavies here in town. One engineer (the youngest, but most talented) recommended this technique during one "class".
As I recall, he put the tape on opposite side of the 57 from the hihat, along the grill side. Anyone ever heard of this?

Method for tracking drums in Cubase
Hey everyone, I'm hoping to gain some insight into how the pro's go about recording multiple takes of drums and compiling them into one good complete take. I'm managing to do it in Cubase SX3 but the process is somewhat complicated - more so that I think it should be. This is my current workflow:

rules for panning drums
Is there a rule for panning drums? Do you pan from the drummers point or the audience?
I have always done this from the audience position but recently heard its a preference.
