Drums on rug or not?
I have always kept my studio kit on a rug for 2 reasons.
1. Avoid reflections from floor
2. keep drums on place (not sliding around)

Micing tuned percussion and others
Hello,
Although I normally only post in the non-pro forums regarding gear, I figured I'd stroll on over here for this particular question to get a pro answer.

A few questions on recording drums
Hi, I'm new here. I work at a studio here in Houston. I started recording a new project tonight in which we are trying to achieve the best possible drum recordings before we move to processing/EQ etc.
This is how I have the set miked right now:
Kick: SM25 inside the kick drum pointed at the beater and a Neumann U87 outside the kit on a 45 degree angle to capture the "oomph"

Carbon microphone on drums and vocals
I thought some of you may be interested in the use of a lo-fi mic blended with regular mic techniques to get a more complex sound. Though I build and sell these carbon microphones, I'm not trying to spam. I would like some feedback on my product and more ideas for it's possible uses. Tell me what you think of my recordings!

Cheap, yet effective, way for recording Acoustic Drums
Hello Everyone! I've been looking for a forum like this for a while now, and its funny to find out that all along there was a Recording.org! Nice!
Anyways...
What does everyone use for drums?
I am having problems with drums. I am not a drummer. I want a good program for creating drums or something that has good samples. What do you guys use if you don't have access to a drummer?
(I have bfd, logic pro, and a drum sample CD but not crazy about any of the sounds)

Using drumsticks on M-Audio Axiom pads
Hello to all,
I have an Axiom 49 from M-Audio. Very nice product.
I was wondering if I could use a pair of drumsticks to hit the pads. I don't think really hit them hard...just enough to produce the sound i need. Will this make the pad ware out? or even make the pad malfunction? Any experiences? Any advices for the type of drumsticks to use?
