I have an SM57, SM58, and an MXL condenser mic. What can I do with these as far as drums go to record rock and roll?

I seem to be getting lots of noise when Micing my fender amp with a SM57. I am recording through a Tascam 4track(using it as a mixer), then to a computer. I think I ought to be able to shove that 57 right up against the amp. Any ideas what the problem is?

I bought a K2 tube mic which sounds fantastick in omni and even between omni and cardioid (its variable) but when you record vocals using the cardioid pattern it sounds like its going through a phase shifter- I used this "feature" to my advantage in a particular song but, come on! Something is wrong here- any ideas?

Hi all...can I use my Avalon U5 DI's with dynamic mics? I figure that they can work that way theoretically, but wondered if it's worthwhile to try it?

I'm just recording my voice and my acoustic guitar into a sound card in my computer using Adobe Audition 1.0. Any recommendations on vocal and/or instrument mics? I'm on a $200 or less budget.

hey there, i hate this being my first post, AND probably the usual 'please choose my mic and pre for me' post. :oops: but hopefully this one is a little different.

I'm helping a friend with a small home studio setup. "small" being a 12" powerbook and an mbox with PT LE.

Just thinking about experimenting here, and I'm sure someone has done this before... I've seen live drum setups that use 2 pairs of LDC mics (Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater for example) but I don't know if they're as concerned with phase as we are around here...
