Using different mics as overheads
Am interested in everyone's thoughts about using two different mics as drum overheads. For me it's a practical matter - have two MXL 603's but one of everything else (AKG 414, Crown CM700, variety of dynamics...). Seems like the plus of getting two different sounds could be a positive. Just a thought!

Trying Mics out
I wanted to try some mics in my studio before choosing one and I went to Guitar Center and they told me they have a policy of not accepting returns on mics because of health laws. Is that for real? Are there such laws? Also, anyone know other outfits that let you actually try out several mics before buying them?

Confused about M-S micing...
Hi there,

Since I would have to:
A) Record normaly into a stereo device (porta MD/DAT) and in post spread the figure 8 pattern onto 2 tracks and reverse the polarity on one track, while having the regular pattern on another track as usual.

Recording Bass - Micing or Direct Input
I read somewhere that recording directly into the mixer is better and more useful than Micing instruments. So, with that in mind, I tried a direct recording of a bass line onto my DAW which is Sonar 2.2 and I wasn't very impressed with the amount of detail it picked up. For instance, all the little clicks and pops from the strings hitting the frets and pickups.

What microphones do you like to record electric guitar w
I like the 421+57 combo that i usually use, sometimes I add in a 414 on omni or figure8. I'd really like to get my hands on an RE20 or 27, I miss having that mic around.
Home Studio - Microphone
Hi Guys -
I've had the chance to ask for help on studio monitors (and have settled for the MSP5), and now the next obvious question is on microphones ...
Considering I can't get anything too pricey, how do you feel these options compare (or if they're utterly useless) :
Marshall Elec. MXLV69LE
AKG C3000B
Shure KSM27/SL

Mic Question?
Should I buy a Shure KSM 44 or a MXL V69ME? I've read great things about both. It's a toss up? Has anyone used both of these and which one is the best? Thanks!
