What are the best available products (microphone or array of microphones) available for highly directional sound recording in 3D? Can you convert them for 7.1 encoding? Anyone else would love to have such products?

How do you know when a song requires compression or not, what is it I'm suppose to focussing on in the mix to determine if compression can help or not its very confusing. it sounds fine to me but a person whos been doing recording for years seems to always have a hitch with something and say it could do with a bit of compression...

I am having trouble getting any signal from my Firestudio 26/26 to my Digi 003 control surface. I have it connected via a firewire cable plugged into the back of the 003, as well as lightpipe. The Firestudio CPL software recognizes that the preamp is connected, and even the Pro Tools Le software shows that I have eight ADAT inputs.

NEVE's analog console with digital control, GENESYS has been around for a year. I have read the reviews, which seem quite positive, but would like to hear about first-hand impressions from people that have actually used it.

I have a few rack units (digital delay, digital reverb etc) that I wanted to use as a effects with my studio. I dont have the gear right now, but I am going to be getting a PreSonus fp10 interface, and I already have Cubase sx3.
