I've just bought a brand spanking new computer and want to set it up for home recording. I've installed Cubase SX and I'm using the soundcard which came with the computer. I've got a few problems which i've tried to fix numerous times and are really irritating me:

I've been having a hell of a time trying to find any info on vintage recording gear commonly used. Maybe some knowledgeable folks here can offer some insight.
In particular I'm curious about the equipment used and the engineering behind the rock recordings of the 60's and 70's.

I am trying to make a synth melody, but each time I press a key the tone comes in too loud, although the sustained tone afterwards sounds okay. How do I decrease the initial "attack" sound so that I get a smooth tone even from the beginning?

or do i need to get one of their boxes?

i ask because i use digital performer right now, and i like it, but i want to use "beat detective" since from what i hear and read, its the best sounding quantizer for actual drum tracks. so i obviously don't want to switch from my two MOTU boxes and dp software to go to pro tools, just for beat detective.

Is it unwise to use a compression pedal to get a particular electic guitar sound when recording? Would this limit what I can do with the guitar during mixing?

Hey guys, this is my first post here, and just as I am a relative "newbie" on the forums, the same can be said about my experience in the studio. So firstly, let's get to my (rather modest) set up: I have a Premio 1.5 Ghz CPU running Pro Tools LE on a Digidesign MBox, what I am wondering is, can I use a different editing software (Adobe Audition 1.5) through my MBox?

I'm using Pro Tools LE and generally it works well, but a weird problem is the clicktracks. Sometimes they work OK but often they go completey haywire - being completely uneven.
Very frustrating!
Any suggestions?
